THE END OF THE MID KID… FOR NOW

June 13, 2008 | MIDs

Well that was a short-lived blog.  I started this blog a few months ago to track the developments with the MID platform on a daily basis.  However, I have recently been hired to do some work that involves working directly with some of the MID manufacturers and software developers.  Because of NDA agreements-- I cannot keep this blog up to date on any new and breaking info as I had originally planned.  I apologize for ending the blog so soon, but hopefully you will remain a fan of the many MID devices that are coming later this year and after.  Definitely be sure to check out WWW.UMPCPORTAL.COM for your daily fix of MID and UMPC info.

MICROSOFT MID?

April 17, 2008 | Danger, MIDs, Microsoft

Well- according to this article over at intomobile.com , Microsoft has hired Len Kawell as a “Distinguished Engineer in the Mobile Communications Business Group" to make Windows Mobile available on a variety of MIDs.  Nooooo!  Please don't!  Ok- just kidding.  I am not a big fan of Windows Mobile, but either way- more options are better for us- the consumers!  Could the first "MID" from Microsoft be Danger's next handset?  It will be interesting to see what comes out of the labs there. via intomobile.com

EB MIMD VOIP CALL

April 16, 2008 | Elektrobit, MIDs

This video has been around for a while, but still very cool. It demos a VoIP call on the Elektrobit's MIMD. I've actually talked with them about this device. They are working with manufacturers who want to produce and market this device. I really like the form factor of this one. Not as sexy as the Gigabyte M528 or the Aigo-- but still very cool. You can find more info here- http://www.elektrobit.com/index.php?599

LENOVO MID

April 16, 2008 | Lenovo, MIDs

Personally, I don't really like the hardware design of this device-- but here is another video from Josh Bancroft of his hands-on experience with it.  The UI is amazing though!  I doubt this one will be launching in the US anyways.

HMMMM…

April 16, 2008 | Aigo, MIDs, Videos

Yes indeed-- here is another video of Josh Bancroft hands-on with the Aigo MID. One of my favs. But DANG! They still got some work to do on this device! The dude in the background said the smart button is still "undefined"! What up with that? With a summer launch- I would think the main button on the device would have functionality. Also- there's quite a bit of lagging going on, and the curse of death- the unresponsive touch screen. Not good. I HATE double clicking the stupid screen. That's why the iPhone really sets itself apart from any other touchscreen devices. Let's hope these MIDs get it right. Yeah-- not to mention the YouTube video didn't play. via UMPCPORTAL.COM

THE CREATION OF THE ATOM

April 16, 2008 | Atom, Intel, MIDs

Here's a video that chronicles the making and invention of the Atom processor-- the muscle behind all the upcoming MIDs. Pretty cool.

GIGABYTE M528

April 16, 2008 | Gigabyte, MIDs

Yes-- this is THE device. This is the one I'm waiting for. I am just hoping-- more like PRAYING- that it will have US 3G compatability. Anyways-- here's a video from a few weeks ago.

WOW

April 15, 2008 | MIDs, Willcom

I usually scoff at any mobile device running anything Windows. Desktops even have issues running Windows-- and to put it on a mobile device? Oh heaven help us. But this device looks like it would be really fun to use-- IF it could run Windows properly- but since it's Vista, I highly doubt that will be happening. Anyways-- read more to learn more about this pretty little face
